Global Communities is seeking a Translator/Communications Officer for the USAID-funded Up to Youth Activity, which will address youth vulnerable to social exclusion by mobilizing and engaging youth in meaningful ways to effect positive change. Over the five-year period, the Activity will work in selected target areas throughout Kosovo to mobilize youth to be forces for positive change, develop and demonstrate life/soft skills among youth and, develop, build and support resilience partners in fostering an environment for youth to engage in a positive and meaningful way.

Responsibilities:

Based in Pristina, the Translator/Communications Officer will be responsible for translating and developing communications materials to support program activities. More specifically, the Translator/Communications Officer will:

  • Manage program communications and reporting activities, including preparation of reports, success stories, press releases and other internal and external program communications.
  • Manage the program’s social media and online presence.
  • Translating program documents and translating at meetings as needed between English and Albanian.
  • Act as first point of contact for PR and Media for the project.
  • Support the drafting of quarterly programmatic reports, in accordance with USAID guidelines and formats.
  • Support in the compilation of weekly team progress reports for the Chief of Party.
  • Support an in-country communications/media outreach strategy in coordination with HQ Communications Department.
  • Responsible for ensuring that requests for all communications about the project and useof the USAID name and/or logo by Global Communities or our partners are aligned with the approved Branding & Marking Plan.
  • Build capacity of Partners, including hands-on support, to adequately meet the branding and communication needs of the program.
  • Support M&E colleagues in the field and at HQ in gathering, tracking and reporting data.
  • Participate in coordination meetings as requested.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency with social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter etc.
  • Ability to perform simultaneous translations between English and Albanian.
  • Ability to write clear, concise and articulate program reports and communications materials in both Albanian and English with minimal oversight and editing.
  • Strong writing and public presentation skills.
  • Ability to develop and carry out work plans and solve problems independently.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated and able to meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Comfortable with team-oriented approach to work, preferably in a multi-cultural setting.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, International Development or relevant discipline
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience with donor reporting and communications.
  • Previous experience supporting a USAID-funded project preferred.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Albanian required.
  • Fluency in other local language preferred.
