The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Innovation and Training Park (ITP) in Prizren is seeking to fill the position of:

Communication Officer

The overall purpose of the post

The ITP project, located at the former military camp of the NATO-led peacekeeping Kosovo Force (KFOR) in Prizren, Kosovo, works on the transformation of the site into an Innovation and Training Park (ITP) (The Innovation & Training Park (ITP) in Prizren). The park’s core idea is to build an ecosystem that, through collaboration and shared resources as well as offered business development services, thrives entrepreneurial innovation and success and thus leads to local and regional economic development in the Prizren region and beyond.

A new component in the ITP team aims to establish a digital transformation centre in the ITP. More specifically, it focuses on the promotion of the digital ecosystem and the digitalization of businesses by building, strengthening and connecting capacities of businesses, higher education and vocational training institutions, civil society organizations and public stakeholders. Its main beneficiaries will be innovative and information and communication technology (ICT) start-ups, small and medium enterprises ((M)SMEs), ICT training and research facilities. The project will thereby implement and support a variety of measures, ranging from the establishment of a Digital Innovation Hub (DIH), start-up incubation and acceleration, joined innovation experiments from the research and business side, a variety of ecosystem building activities and advice to related policy processes.

The Communication Officer will support the management team with communication and PR strategies including maintaining social media, website, production of communication.

Main responsibilities and tasks

The Communication Officer:

  • Supports the Team Leader with the strategic direction of communication and PR towards the project’s target group within Kosovo and beyond
  • Develops and implements measures for project communication and PR (offline, as well as through Social Media, website, GIZ international communication channels, etc.)
  • Arranges the design and production of communications & visibility material for the ITP project and its activities in accordance with GIZ standards (corporate design, standards for content)
  • Informs and engages local, national or even international media pro-actively about the ITP project;
  • Supports the planning, delivery and post-processing of workshops, conferences and other project events at the ITP and elsewhere
  • Assists the Team Leader and the project team with the national and international efforts to market the ITP Prizren if needed
  • Coordinates external service providers related to communication and PR work, e.g. appraisers, agencies, and others
  • Ensures effective communication and flow of information within the project, as well as among other GIZ offices/projects
  • Contributes to the project’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system
  • Contributes to the project’s knowledge management
  • Contributes to the project’s monitoring & evaluation
  • Supports the Team Leader and the project team in other project-related duties.

The above functions are indicative and may be modified according to the needs of the project.

Required tasks:

Communication work

The Communication Officer

  • Supports the Team Leader with the strategic direction of the project’s communication efforts
  • develops and implements suitable project communication activities (offline, as well as through Social Media, website, GIZ international communication channels, etc.)
  • Manages the re-launching of the project’s website and ensures constant further development
  • Arranges the design and production of communications & visibility material for the project.

Media work

The Communication Officer

  • Develops and implements project media activities (drafting and sending out press releases, compiling assembling and distributing media information materials for specific target groups, etc.)
  • Establishes and maintains contacts with local, national or even international media
  • Monitors the media in relation to the project’s scope of activities
  • As needed, organises events with local, national or even international media.

PR work

The Communication Officer

  • Assists the Team Leader with the strategic direction of the project’s PR efforts
  • Develops suitable communication instruments for PR (e.g. project brochures, fact sheets, advertising material, PowerPoint presentations, etc.)
  • Manages the appropriate coordination processes to produce publications and materials in accordance with GIZ standards (corporate design, standards for content)
  • As needed, organises projects events.

Internal communications in the country 

The Communication Officer

  • Identifies appropriate instruments and channels for effective communication and flow of information within the project and the GIZ country office / other GIZ projects.

Other duties/additional tasks

The Communication Officer

  • Assists the Team Leader and the project team with the national and international efforts to market the ITP Prizren if needed
  • Contributes to the project’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system;
  • Contributes to the project’s knowledge management
  • Contributes to the project’s monitoring & evaluation
  • Performs other duties and tasks at the request of the Team Leader.

Required qualifications, competencies and experience

Qualifications

  • University degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, ICT, or relevant fields.

Professional experience

  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in the field of communication (media and PR work, journalism, internal communication or lobbying or similar).

Other knowledge, additional competences

  • Experience in project and/or event management
  • Knowledge of desktop publishing software (InDesign/Photoshop)
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, content management systems, and Social Media platforms.
  • A high degree of creativity
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Pro-active attitude towards work and strong motivation to take on new challenges
  • Very good knowledge of English; German will be an asset.
