Call for expressions of interest
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations. The focus of the GIZ Project “Sustainable Municipal Services (SMS 2.0)” co-financed by the European Union is to support select-ed Kosovo municipalities in accordance with their legally assigned mandate in the area of waste management.
The amended Waste Law (2012) is the legal base for municipal waste management activities in Kosovo. According to this Law, Article 15.1, it is the task of the municipalities to compile SWMP. Municipalities have contracted the collection service to regionally organized municipal public owned enterprises (PoE) and partly to private companies. Some have their own landfill, while others are depended on KLMC, the national public enterprise managing landfills.
Initially starting with seventeen pilot municipalities, SMS 2.0 program supports scaling up SWMP drafting process to other Kosovo municipalities on demand basis. Of 38 Kosovo municipalities, the following municipalities do not have SWMPs: Dragash/Dragas and Malisheve/Malisevo municipality. Hence, at this stage the aforementioned municipalities shall be supported to draft their SWMPs.
The checklist below provides further information about the conditions and expectations of the GIZ/SMS project.
